Salt Lake City drivers may face slick roads and lightning delays Friday afternoon as scattered thunderstorms return to northern Utah. Commuters on I-15 and I-80 should prepare for sudden downpours and brief travel disruptions.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, Friday will bring a 20 percent chance of storms after noon, with highs near 80 degrees. Winds will remain calm in the morning before shifting northwest up to 6 mph by evening. Rain may linger through Friday night, with low temperatures dipping to the upper 50s.

Saturday’s outlook calls for partly sunny skies with isolated storms possible before 9 a.m. Temperatures will reach the mid-70s before clearing into a mostly dry afternoon. By Sunday, high pressure will settle in, bringing sunny skies and warmer highs near 81. Clear weather continues through early next week, with steady daytime highs hovering around 80.

Residents should remain alert for lightning and brief heavy rain Friday, especially if attending outdoor events or traveling mountain passes. The Utah Department of Transportation urges caution on highways where wet pavement and reduced visibility may slow travel.

Storm chances taper quickly by Saturday morning, leaving much of the weekend clear and comfortable. However, brief showers could still pop up in the Wasatch Front foothills.

More updates are expected Friday morning as forecasters track storm timing and intensity.
