Salt Lake City, UT – Snow is set to return to the mountains of northern Utah late Friday into Saturday, potentially impacting travel along higher-elevation routes. While lower valleys will experience rain, mountain locations could see significant snowfall with shifting snow levels overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, precipitation will begin Friday afternoon as a shortwave moves through the region. Snowfall will become more widespread overnight into Saturday morning before tapering off in the afternoon with the arrival of a weak cold front.
Snow levels are expected to start around 4,500 to 5,500 feet Friday afternoon before rising to 5,500 to 6,500 feet overnight. By Saturday, colder air will lower snow levels to 5,000 to 6,000 feet. This shift may result in varying road conditions, particularly in mountain passes.
Travelers should exercise caution, as snowfall could create slick and hazardous roads. Those heading into higher elevations should prepare for winter driving conditions through Saturday morning.
