Utah – The Wasatch Front wakes up to clear skies and crisp mountain air this morning, the kind that cuts sharp but feels refreshing after a long week of travel. Light glints off the peaks above Salt Lake City, but clouds are already gathering west of the Great Salt Lake — a sign of change ahead.
The National Weather Service reports that conditions stay mostly sunny and mild Friday and Saturday, with highs near the mid-40s. But by Sunday, colder air will spill in from the northwest, bringing a chance of light rain and snow across the Salt Lake Valley. While totals should stay light — less than half an inch in most spots — temperatures hovering near freezing could make for slick roads by evening, especially on I-15 and I-80.
After a brief break Monday, models show another system forming early next week that could bring additional precipitation and stronger winds into northern Utah as the December cold pattern deepens across the West. NOAA’s 6–10 Day Outlook highlights below-normal temperatures for much of the U.S., with Utah trending colder but slightly wetter into early December.
Residents should prepare for freezing nights and patchy frost across valleys through the first week of December. Keep vehicles winter-ready and plan extra time for Sunday evening travel if snow showers develop as expected.
