Salt Lake City, Utah – Strong winds and scattered thunderstorms are expected across northern Utah on Sunday, kicking off a spring weather alert week that could end with widespread rainfall and road impacts.

According to the National Weather Service, Salt Lake City will see a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday afternoon, with gusts topping 33 mph. Drivers along I-15 and I-80 should expect reduced visibility and possible slick roads, especially by late Tuesday when thunderstorm chances rise to 70%.

South and southeast winds will increase Sunday afternoon, with gusts continuing into Sunday night. Monday offers a break with mostly sunny skies and a high of 85°F, but don’t be fooled—Tuesday night will bring a renewed storm push with a strong likelihood of rain and thunderstorms. Conditions remain unsettled into Wednesday with lingering storms and highs near 60°F.

Residents should charge devices, secure outdoor items, and prepare for potential power outages during Tuesday’s stronger system. Localized flooding in low-lying areas and brief travel delays are also possible.

Looking ahead, Thursday brings a return to mild conditions with sunshine and a high near 66°F. Friday should stay dry with cooler highs around 73°F.

Stay weather-aware and check updates from the National Weather Service as warnings may be issued before Tuesday night’s storms.
