Salt Lake City, Utah – A major heatwave will build across the Salt Lake Valley this week, pushing temperatures into the triple digits and creating dangerous conditions for the Juneteenth holiday. Residents will see mostly sunny skies and a high of 93°F on Monday, which will set the stage for a steady climb toward extreme heat by Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, the most significant heat is expected on Juneteenth, with a high near 102°F under sunny and hot skies. A slight reprieve arrives Tuesday with a high of 87°F before temperatures climb back to 93°F on Wednesday. The intense sun and heat will create hazardous conditions, especially during the afternoon. Officials urge residents to take precautions. Limit strenuous outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable family members and neighbors.

The prolonged warmth will impact travel and daily routines across the Wasatch Front. Drivers along I-15 and I-80 should be prepared for hot road surfaces and ensure their vehicles are in good working order to prevent breakdowns. The risk of heat-related illnesses will be very high, particularly for those without adequate cooling. Ensure pets have plenty of water and are not left in vehicles.

Following the peak on Thursday, the heat will persist. A high of 96°F is expected for Friday, with the weekend also remaining warm. More advisories could be issued as the week progresses.
