Salt Lake City’s sunny streak is about to break as fall weather changes arrive this weekend across northern Utah. After two bright days, showers and possible thunderstorms will roll in by Saturday, marking the state’s first early October shift.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, rain chances increase sharply late Friday into Saturday, with precipitation likely through Saturday night. Showers may impact drivers along I-15 and I-80, especially during peak Saturday travel. Commuters are urged to leave extra time and avoid slick conditions.
Thursday and Friday will still deliver comfortable weather, with highs reaching the low 80s Thursday and near 80 Friday. Conditions turn unsettled Friday evening as clouds thicken and scattered storms develop. The heaviest rainfall is expected Saturday, when an 80% chance of showers could dampen outdoor plans, including early Halloween decorating.
Temperatures will also drop this weekend, falling into the 50s Saturday night before rebounding slightly into the 60s on Sunday. The Wasatch Front can expect cooler days next week, with highs closer to the low 70s and dry skies returning by Tuesday.
Residents should prepare for changing conditions by securing outdoor items, charging devices in case of lightning-related outages, and allowing extra time for travel. With clear skies returning by early next week, it may be best to delay major yard work or fall activities until after Sunday.
Showers could linger into Saturday night, but drier weather will dominate much of next week. Another update is expected if additional advisories are issued.
