Salt Lake City is bracing for intense heat and wildfire smoke Tuesday, with a red flag warning issued for much of the area. Drivers on I-15 and local roads should remain cautious due to reduced visibility from patchy smoke after 3 p.m. and very hot conditions with a high near 101°F. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity and stay hydrated.

According to the National Weather Service, isolated thunderstorms may develop Tuesday night before midnight, bringing a 20% chance of precipitation but also gusty west-southwest winds of 5 to 8 mph. Smoke will linger until around 9 p.m., and most areas will stay mostly cloudy.

Looking ahead, Wednesday will bring relief with mostly sunny skies and a high near 94°F. Winds will calm, shifting to the northwest at 5 to 8 mph. Thursday and Friday are expected to be sunny and hot, with highs reaching 96°F and 97°F, respectively.

Salt Lake City’s weekend outlook shows mostly sunny skies Saturday through Monday, with highs hovering in the mid-90s. Nighttime lows will stay comfortable in the upper 60s to low 70s, offering a slight cooldown.

Prepare for continued summer heat by drinking plenty of water, avoiding strenuous outdoor work during peak afternoon hours, and monitoring local air quality reports due to ongoing wildfire smoke.
