Salt Lake City, Utah – A warmer-than-normal start to March is setting up across Utah, with milder air favoring valley rain and periods of mountain snow from Sunday, March 1, through Thursday, March 5.

According to NOAA’s 6-10 day outlook issued Monday, Utah is favored to see above-normal temperatures during the March 1-5 stretch, while precipitation trends near to slightly above seasonal averages across parts of the Intermountain West. That pattern supports rain in lower elevations and snow mainly confined to higher terrain.

Along the Wasatch Front, including Salt Lake City, Ogden and Provo, passing rain showers are the most likely outcome as systems move through the region. Periods of steadier rainfall could create slick stretches along Interstate 15 and Interstate 80, especially during peak commute hours.

In the mountains, including Park City, Alta and Snowbird, colder air at elevation may support accumulating snow, particularly overnight. Travel through Parleys Canyon and along I-80 east of Salt Lake City could become slushy or snow-covered at times if heavier bands develop.

Farther south, including Cedar City and St. George, rain should dominate with mild daytime temperatures limiting any wintry concern in lower elevations.

Drivers should remain alert for changing conditions in higher terrain and reduced visibility during heavier showers statewide. With temperatures trending above normal in valleys, early March will feel milder than average across much of Utah’s populated areas.

Additional refinements are expected later this week as the March 1-5 window approaches and system timing becomes clearer.
