Salt Lake City, UT – The morning sky glows soft pink over the Wasatch Range, the air crisp and calm at 46°F. For now, it’s a picture-perfect autumn morning across northern Utah — but clouds are already stirring to the west, hinting that a wet weekend may be just ahead.

The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City expects sunny skies Friday, with highs reaching a mild 64°F, ideal for outdoor plans or last-minute yard work before the pattern shifts. By Saturday afternoon, however, moisture spreading inland from the Pacific will bring increasing clouds and a 40–50% chance of rain, especially along the Wasatch Front and I-80 corridor.

Rain chances rise further into Saturday night and Sunday, with brief thunderstorms possible as cooler air slides in from the north. Daytime highs will fall into the upper 50s, and while snow levels stay high — around 8,000 feet — hikers and travelers headed toward the Cottonwood Canyons should watch for wet roads and lower visibility in higher terrain.

Conditions improve by Monday, returning to mostly sunny skies and highs near 53°F, but another bump in temperatures follows next week — a pleasant turn just in time for Halloween week.

To be fair, this weekend’s system won’t bring much cold air to the valley floor, but it’s another early sign that the winter transition is quietly underway in northern Utah.
