Salt Lake City, Utah – Drivers heading into Utah’s mountains late Friday could face rapidly worsening road conditions as multiple rounds of snow spread across central, southern, and northern high terrain through Saturday and into early Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for much of Utah’s mountain zones, with snow developing Friday afternoon and intensifying Friday night. The most widespread impacts are expected from Friday evening through Saturday, when several mountain areas could see more than half a foot of accumulation.

In central Utah’s mountains, including Cove Fort, Joes Valley, and Fish Lake, snowfall totals are expected to reach 5 to 10 inches between Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, creating slick and snowpacked conditions on higher elevation routes.

Southern Utah’s mountains, including Brian Head and Alton, remain under an advisory above 8,500 feet through late Thursday night, followed by a stronger system Friday evening into Saturday. Snow totals of 6 to 12 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts up to 15 inches in the Tushar Range. Travel impacts are likely along SR-14, SR-143, and SR-148.

Farther north, the Wasatch Mountains, Wasatch Plateau, and Book Cliffs could see 6 to 16 inches of snow, with localized totals near 20 inches in the upper Cottonwoods and Bear River Range. In the Western Uintas, including the Mirror Lake Highway, snow may linger into early Sunday, with totals reaching up to 15 inches in higher terrain.

UDOT urges travelers to slow down, allow extra time, and check road conditions before heading into mountain passes. Additional advisories or extensions are possible as the storm continues through the weekend.
