Salt Lake City, UT – A significant early-season snowfall is expected to hit Utah’s mountains late Thursday into Friday. Forecasters predict heavy snow accumulation and rapidly dropping temperatures during this period. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that snow could linger into Saturday, particularly in southern Utah mountains.

According to the NWS, snowfall will begin Thursday evening, with the heaviest snow expected overnight into early Friday. The Cottonwood Canyons may see 6 to 12 inches of snow, with up to 15 inches in some areas. The western Uinta mountains could receive 10 to 20 inches.

Travelers are urged to prepare for winter driving conditions, including reduced visibility and possible traction restrictions on mountain routes. Backcountry recreationalists should also prepare for heavy, wet snowfall and rapidly changing conditions.

NWS advises those traveling through impacted areas to carry winter survival kits and monitor road conditions via the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT). Additional snow accumulations are possible through the weekend in higher elevations.
