Salt Lake City, Utah – Drivers, hikers, and families spending Labor Day outdoors in northern Utah should brace for soaring heat that tops 90 degrees. The National Weather Service warns that Salt Lake City will see near-record warmth on Monday, bringing health and fire concerns to the region. Residents are urged to limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours and use caution along major routes like I-15 where heat can increase tire blowout risks.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, Labor Day highs will reach 91°F under sunny skies with only light winds. Fire danger will remain elevated across valleys and foothills through midweek as dry conditions persist. Emergency managers recommend carrying extra water, avoiding sparks near dry brush, and checking cooling centers if needed.

Monday night brings little relief, with lows near 65°F. By Tuesday and Wednesday, highs hold near 90°F before a slight cool down late week. The extended stretch of dry weather could strain local reservoirs and worsen air quality as smoke from regional fires lingers.

Those traveling across the Wasatch Front, including routes into Park City and Provo, should plan for warm cabin temperatures and pack plenty of water. Outdoor events in downtown Salt Lake City may require shade and frequent hydration breaks.

While sunshine dominates through Friday, a shift arrives Saturday with scattered showers and thunderstorms. This change could help ease fire danger but may also disrupt outdoor plans.

Warnings for heat and air quality remain possible through midweek.
