Salt Lake City, UT – A widespread winter storm continues to hammer Utah’s mountains tonight, prompting multiple Winter Storm Warnings across the Wasatch, Uinta, and Central Mountain ranges. The National Weather Service says the storm will persist through 5 a.m. MST Sunday, bringing periods of heavy snow and blowing snow capable of significantly disrupting travel.
According to the National Weather Service Salt Lake City office, the Wasatch Mountains north and south of I-80—including Logan Summit, Mantua, Brighton, and Alta—are expected to receive between 12 and 30 inches of snow. Snowfall rates may exceed 2 inches per hour through early Saturday morning. Blowing and drifting snow will reduce visibility, especially near Logan Summit.
A separate Winter Storm Warning covers the Western Uinta Mountains, Wasatch Plateau/Book Cliffs, and Utah’s Central Mountains, where 1 to 2 feet of snow is forecast. Areas south of Manti may see 4 to 8 inches. Significant impacts are expected at Soldier Summit, where winter driving conditions may deteriorate quickly.
The Wasatch Back—including Park City, Heber City, and Huntsville—is forecast to receive 6 to 12 inches above 5,500 feet and 2 to 6 inches at lower elevations.
Officials say traction restrictions are likely on major mountain routes, including Mirror Lake Highway, Indian Canyon, and Joes Valley. Drivers may encounter very low visibility in blowing snow and should be prepared for delays or closures.
The National Weather Service urges anyone traveling to carry emergency supplies and check Utah DOT road conditions at udottraffic.utah.gov.
