Salt Lake City, Utah – Snow is creating slick mountain travel across much of Utah early Friday, with several key passes and canyon routes expected to see accumulating snow through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 p.m. MST Friday for the Wasatch Mountains, Western Uinta Mountains, Central Mountains, and the Wasatch Plateau/Book Cliffs region. Snow totals of 1 to 6 inches are expected, with locally up to 8 inches possible in higher elevations.

Travel through Cottonwood Canyons, Logan Summit, Mirror Lake Highway, and areas near Alta and Brighton may become difficult as snowfall continues through the day. Mountain routes such as Daniels Summit and Soldier Summit could also see reduced visibility and snow-covered pavement.

Farther south, including Brian Head, Alton, Scofield, and Indian Canyon, an additional 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected through the afternoon.

Lower valleys are also seeing lighter impacts. A separate advisory remains in effect for the Sanpete and Sevier valleys, including Ephraim, Manti, Mt. Pleasant, Richfield, and Salina, where up to 2 inches of snow could create slippery roads through 11 a.m. MST Friday.

Drivers heading through mountain passes are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and check Utah Department of Transportation road conditions at UDOT Traffic before traveling.

Snowfall is expected to taper later Friday evening, though some mountain roads could remain slick after the advisory expires. Additional updates may be issued if snowfall intensifies in higher terrain.
