Salt Lake City, UT – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Southern Mountains of Utah from 11 p.m. Saturday through 5 a.m. Monday, with significant snowfall expected across higher elevations. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Salt Lake City, snow totals will vary sharply by elevation as colder air moves in through the second half of the weekend.

According to NWS, elevations above 9,000 feet are forecast to receive 6 to 12 inches of snow, while areas between 7,500 and 9,000 feet may see 2 to 6 inches. Snow levels will begin very high Saturday night—near 9,500 to 10,000 feet—before dropping steadily to 7,500 feet by Sunday afternoon. In heavier precipitation, snow levels could fall to 6,500–7,000 feet Sunday afternoon into Monday.

Locations such as Alton, Brian Head, and surrounding mountain corridors will experience periods of heavy snowfall, creating winter driving conditions on all major routes. The earliest travel impacts are expected above 9,500 feet tonight, expanding to elevations at or above 8,000 feet by Sunday afternoon.

Forecasters warn that the most significant road impacts will occur during bursts of heavy precipitation, when visibility may drop quickly and snow may accumulate on road surfaces. Travelers planning to use high-elevation roads should prepare for delays and consider adjusting plans.

The advisory remains in effect through early Monday as the storm system gradually tapers off.

Drivers are urged to slow down, leave extra following distance, and check Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) updates at udottraffic.utah.gov before traveling.
