Salt Lake City, UT – Drivers across central and southern Utah could face dangerous crosswinds immediately, with wind gusts up to 55 mph creating hazardous travel conditions through the evening hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday for a large portion of the state, including Tooele, Cedar City, Price, Richfield, and Bryce Canyon areas. Sustained southwest winds between 25 and 35 mph are expected, with stronger gusts capable of sudden impacts.
Major travel routes including I-15, US-6, and US-89 will be especially vulnerable, particularly in open valleys like the Sevier and Sanpete Valleys where crosswinds can make driving difficult for trucks, RVs, and vehicles with trailers.
Communities such as Ephraim, Manti, and Beaver may also see blowing dust and reduced visibility at times, along with the potential for isolated power outages due to downed tree limbs.
Residents should secure outdoor objects and avoid unnecessary travel in high-profile vehicles during peak wind periods this afternoon. Winds are expected to weaken after sunset, but hazardous conditions will persist until the advisory expires this evening.
