Salt Lake City, Utah – Mountain travel across Utah is turning hazardous this morning as snowfall rates push past 2 inches per hour in the Upper Cottonwoods and winds gust to 60 mph, creating dangerous driving conditions through early Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 a.m. MST Thursday for the Wasatch Mountains, Western Uinta Mountains, Wasatch Plateau and Central Mountains. Storm totals between 1 and 2 feet are expected, with locally up to 30 inches in Alta and Brighton. Winds gusting to 60 mph will create blowing snow and traction restrictions on mountain routes including I-80 near Parleys Summit, Mirror Lake Highway and Logan Summit.

The Wasatch Back, including Park City and Heber City, could see 6 to 14 inches with up to 18 inches near Park City by early Thursday. In Cache Valley, including Logan and Smithfield, 3 to 8 inches are expected between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday, with snowfall rates exceeding 1 inch per hour midday.

Southern Utah mountains, including Brian Head and the Tushar range, may receive up to 3 feet before 5 p.m. Wednesday, while Bryce Canyon Country and Cedar City could see 2 to 6 inches at lower elevations and up to 14 inches above 7,000 feet.

UDOT warns traction laws are likely statewide on major mountain corridors. Drivers should delay travel if possible and check udottraffic.utah.gov for real-time road conditions. Warnings remain active through early Thursday, and additional advisories could follow as snow showers linger.
