Salt Lake City, UT – Snow-covered mountain roads across northern and central Utah could slow overnight travel through 5 a.m. Thursday, with fresh accumulation adding to already slick conditions on high-elevation routes.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 a.m. MST for the Wasatch Mountains, Western Uinta Mountains, Wasatch Back and the Wasatch Plateau/Book Cliffs. Additional snowfall of up to 3 inches is expected in the Wasatch Mountains and Western Uintas, with up to 2 inches across the Wasatch Back and central mountain zones.

Areas near Alta, Brighton and Logan Summit may see steady snow overnight, while Park City, Heber City and Huntsville continue to deal with winter driving conditions. In central Utah, Joes Valley, Scofield and Fish Lake will also pick up light additional accumulation.

Mountain passes along Interstate 80, Mirror Lake Highway and Indian Canyon are likely to remain snow-packed. Reduced visibility and icy stretches could impact early Thursday commuters and overnight travelers.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra following distance and carry emergency supplies if heading into higher elevations. For updated road conditions, visit UDOT’s traffic website before traveling.

Snow should taper toward daybreak, but slick spots may persist on untreated roads into the morning hours.
