Park City, Utah – Mountain travel across northern and southern Utah could become extremely difficult by Monday evening as a multi-day storm targets the Wasatch and Uinta ranges.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Monday afternoon through late Wednesday night for the Wasatch Mountains, Wasatch Back and Western Uinta Mountains. Snow totals of 12 to 24 inches are possible, with more than 3 feet in the Upper Cottonwoods. Wind gusts could reach 55 mph, creating blowing snow and reduced visibility along exposed ridgelines and passes.

The first round of snow arrives Monday evening and continues into Tuesday afternoon, briefly easing before intensifying again Tuesday night. The heaviest snowfall is expected Wednesday. Areas including Park City, Alta, Brighton, Logan Summit and Mirror Lake Highway may see rapidly changing conditions.

In southern Utah, including Brian Head and the Tushar Mountains, 8 to 18 inches are possible with localized totals near 2 feet by Wednesday afternoon.

Drivers should prepare for chain restrictions and check UDOT traffic updates before heading into the mountains. Additional watches or warnings are likely as confidence increases through midweek.
