Utah – Headlights glow through a gray veil this morning as haze and patchy fog settle into the Salt Lake Valley. Visibility drops in pockets, and damp air clings to roads before sunrise. By the afternoon, sunshine tries to break through, but winter refuses to loosen its grip.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, widespread haze continues into tonight, with patchy fog developing late. Friday starts murky, especially before mid-morning, before skies gradually brighten. Daytime highs stay in the low 40s, while nighttime lows fall into the mid-20s.

Travel impacts remain the main concern early. Fog and haze reduce visibility along I-15, I-80, and surface streets near the Great Salt Lake. Drivers should slow down, allow extra space, and watch for sudden drops in visibility, especially during early commutes.

Conditions improve heading into the weekend as high pressure builds. Saturday and Sunday turn sunny and dry, with highs climbing into the upper 40s by Sunday. Cold nights continue, though, with lows ranging from 27 to 29 degrees. Any moisture left on roads can refreeze after sunset, creating isolated slick spots.

Winter weather elsewhere across the country stays active, but northern Utah remains quiet for now. Even so, sharp temperature swings and lingering haze make timing important. Plan travel later in the morning when fog lifts, and bundle up for cold evenings.

Looking ahead, more daylight slowly returns to the Wasatch Front, offering brighter afternoons despite winter chill. Dry weather holds into early next week, but cold mornings remain part of the routine.
