Salt Lake City, Utah – Mountain travel across northern Utah is expected to remain challenging through Monday as steady snowfall continues to pile up across the Wasatch and Western Uinta Mountains, with periods of heavy snow creating hazardous driving conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through Monday night for the Wasatch Mountains north and south of I-80 and the Western Uinta Mountains. Snow totals are expected to reach 8 to 18 inches above 7,500 feet, with localized amounts topping two feet at elevations above 8,500 feet in the Wasatch and Bear River Ranges.

Snow coverage is expected to expand Sunday afternoon, with the most intense snowfall developing overnight and continuing into Monday morning. Areas favored by southwest flow, including Provo Canyon, Snowbasin, Alta, Brighton, Logan Summit, Mantua, and stretches of the Mirror Lake Highway, could see higher accumulations due to terrain-driven enhancement.

Travel impacts are expected to worsen late Sunday through Monday morning as roads become snow-packed and visibility drops at times. Utah Department of Transportation officials warn traction law restrictions may be enacted on mountain routes, and delays are likely during peak travel periods.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and carry winter safety gear when crossing mountain passes. Snow is expected to taper later Monday evening, though additional advisories could be issued if snowfall intensifies or lingers longer than expected.
