Salt Lake City, Utah – Gusty winds and pea-sized hail could rattle Salt Lake City by Saturday afternoon as a fast-moving thunderstorm tracks across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, a strong storm is expected to impact central Salt Lake County until around 4 p.m. Saturday, including areas along I-15 and I-80. The system was observed moving northeast at 30 mph with wind gusts up to 50 mph and hail measuring up to 0.25 inches. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and avoid travel during peak storm activity.
Communities at risk include Salt Lake City, West Valley City, Murray, Draper, and Sandy. Additional impacts are likely near Taylorsville, Cottonwood Heights, and Millcreek. Downed tree limbs and minor property damage are possible as winds increase through the afternoon.
Drivers should use caution on I-15 between mile markers 290 and 311, and I-80 between mile markers 115 and 136. Visibility may quickly drop as gusts and rain intensify. If outdoors during the storm, seek shelter inside a sturdy building.
