Salt Lake City, Utah – Scorching summer heat will grip Utah starting Saturday, with Salt Lake City bracing for highs near 98°F by early next week. Drivers on I-15 and I-80 should limit travel during peak afternoon hours through Tuesday as pavement temps soar well above 100°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a dry high-pressure system will dominate the region beginning Saturday, July 12. Daytime highs will climb from 94°F on Saturday to 98°F by Sunday and remain near that mark through Tuesday, July 16. Overnight lows will stay in the upper 60s to low 70s, offering minimal overnight relief.

Salt Lake County and surrounding areas — including West Valley City, Sandy, and Ogden — can expect calm winds shifting northwest at 5–8 mph during the afternoon. While skies will remain mostly clear, prolonged sun exposure could lead to heat-related illnesses. Residents should drink plenty of water, avoid extended time outdoors from noon to 6 p.m., and never leave children or pets in vehicles.

Across the Wasatch Front, weekend plans should be adjusted to account for intense midday sun. Power grids may see additional strain; conserve electricity during peak usage.

  • Sunday: Sunny, high 98°F
  • Monday: Sunny, high 97°F
