Salt Lake City, Utah – Utah’s spring heat will surge into the 70s this week before a round of thunderstorms threatens travel and outdoor plans by Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, Tuesday will bring clear skies and a high near 68°F, offering a perfect window for travel and outdoor work. However, by Wednesday afternoon, a 60% chance of showers and possible thunderstorms could cause wet, slick conditions across the Salt Lake Valley and major routes like I-15, I-80, and I-215.

Residents are urged to take advantage of Tuesday’s calm, sunny weather for errands or commuting, as rain and thunder could create hazardous conditions midweek. Winds could also pick up ahead of Wednesday’s system, with showers likely to continue into the evening hours. Drivers should stay alert for reduced visibility and ponding on roads, especially during peak travel times.

After the storm, Thursday looks to rebound quickly with sunshine and highs near 71°F. Dry, mild weather dominates into the weekend, with Friday and Saturday highs soaring into the upper 70s. A slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms returns Saturday and Sunday.

Here’s the extended five-day spring weather preview for Salt Lake City:

  • Tuesday: Sunny, high near 68°F.
  • Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, low around 50°F.
  • Wednesday: Showers likely after noon, high near 62°F.
  • Thursday: Sunny and warmer, high near 71°F.
  • Friday: Slight chance of afternoon storms, high near 78°F.

Stay weather-aware throughout the week. A new round of advisories may be issued by late Tuesday night if Wednesday’s storms strengthen.
