St. George, Utah – Winter isn’t done with southern Utah just yet. Drivers and hikers heading into high elevations like Boulder Mountain and the Tushar Range could face heavy snow and slippery roads Thursday into Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a storm system will bring accumulating snow to the southern mountains starting Thursday morning, with snowfall continuing through Friday afternoon. Total accumulations may reach 6 to 12 inches, with locally higher amounts up to 20 inches possible at higher elevations.
The snowfall will significantly affect travel conditions, particularly across mountain roads and passes. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) advises checking road conditions at udottraffic.utah.gov before traveling and preparing for traction requirements in affected areas.
Residents and visitors should carry winter survival kits, delay non-essential mountain travel, and be alert for rapidly changing weather conditions. This system marks a return to unsettled spring weather following several days of mild temperatures.
Snow is expected to taper off by Friday evening, but more advisories may follow if additional systems move in. Stay tuned to NWS Salt Lake City for the latest alerts and road condition updates.
