Brian Head, UT – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Southern Mountains of Utah as a weekend storm brings accumulating mountain snow and hazardous travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service Salt Lake City.

The advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday, and includes the Brian Head and Alton areas. According to the NWS, total snow accumulations could reach 8 inches, with locally up to 12 inches possible at the highest elevations. Snow levels are expected to fall to around 7,000 feet late Saturday night, with the greatest accumulations above 9,000 feet.

Forecasters warn that winter travel conditions will be possible above 7,000 feet and increasingly likely for higher mountain passes and seasonal routes. Roads across the upper elevations of the Southern Mountains may become snow-covered and slick at times from late Saturday night through early Monday morning.

The NWS advises travelers to slow down and use caution, especially in the Brian Head region where snowfall rates could briefly become heavier during peak periods of the storm.
