Salt Lake City, Utah – Salt Lake City residents face an early July heat wave, with temperatures soaring to 100°F by Wednesday and staying above 90°F into the weekend. Outdoor workers, families, and anyone without reliable cooling should take extra precautions as this prolonged stretch of hot, sunny weather raises the risk of heat-related illness.
According to the National Weather Service, Salt Lake City will see a high near 98°F Tuesday, followed by a peak of 100°F on Wednesday. Overnight lows remain warm, dropping only to the upper 60s and low 70s, offering little relief. The hottest conditions are expected across the Salt Lake Valley and adjacent cities, including West Valley City and Sandy, with heat advisories likely to expand as temperatures rise.
City crews are monitoring key roads for pavement buckling and area hospitals urge residents to check on elderly neighbors. With air conditioning demand expected to surge, Rocky Mountain Power recommends reducing peak energy use between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Each afternoon, UV indexes remain very high—anyone outdoors should stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and limit strenuous activity to early morning or evening.
Although highs fall back to the upper 80s by Friday and Saturday, the heat remains a concern through at least Saturday evening. Stay tuned for additional alerts as July’s heat wave continues.
