Salt Lake City, UT – A long-duration heat wave continues across southern Utah while heat is expected to build across the north starting Wednesday. Dangerous heat is expected for most valleys across Utah for the middle to latter part of the week, peaking Friday and Saturday in the northern half of the state.

According to the US National Weather Service, temperatures in far southern Utah valleys, including Lower Washington County, Zion National Park, and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, are forecasted to reach 110-115°F through Friday. Overnight lows will remain in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Other Utah valleys, including the Wasatch Front, can expect high temperatures between 100-106°F from Wednesday to Saturday.

In the northern regions, areas such as Capitol Reef, Western Canyons, Castle Country, and the San Rafael Swell will see temperatures ranging from 99-106°F Thursday through Saturday. These high temperatures, combined with warm overnight lows, pose significant health risks for individuals without adequate cooling or hydration.

Residents are advised to take precautions, including staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, taking frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade, and canceling outdoor activities during peak heat hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The forecast for Salt Lake City predicts temperatures climbing to 101°F on Wednesday, 103°F on Thursday and Friday, and peaking at 104°F on Saturday. The intense heat wave is expected to ease slightly by Sunday, with temperatures dropping to 98°F.
