Salt Lake City, Utah – Temperatures will surge into record territory by Friday afternoon, with heat building quickly enough to challenge long-standing March records across much of Utah.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, highs will reach 83°F Friday and Saturday in Salt Lake City, nearing the March record of 80°F. Cities like Logan will climb to around 80°F, while Fillmore and Cedar City push into the mid-80s. The most extreme heat will hit southern Utah, where St. George is expected to reach 95°F by Friday afternoon.

This puts temperatures roughly 15 to 25 degrees above normal statewide, creating early-season heat stress, especially for those without access to cooling. Outdoor recreation areas and urban corridors alike will feel the impact during peak afternoon hours.

The rapid warm-up may also accelerate snowmelt in higher elevations, increasing flows in creeks and rivers fed by mountain snowpack. Officials advise caution near cold, fast-moving water despite the warm air temperatures.

Residents should stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and check on vulnerable individuals. Record heat is expected to persist through the weekend, with additional advisories possible if temperatures continue trending upward.
