Salt Lake City, Utah – Dangerous heat will grip northern Utah midweek, with Salt Lake City expected to reach 100 degrees Wednesday before storm chances move in late week. Drivers and outdoor workers should prepare for high heat stress through Wednesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, temperatures will climb into the upper 90s Tuesday, topping out near 100 on Wednesday. A shift comes Wednesday night, when a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms develops, mainly before midnight. By Thursday evening, storm chances increase, bringing the threat of gusty winds and lightning across the Wasatch Front.

The National Weather Service notes Friday and Saturday could feature scattered storms, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours. Areas from Ogden south through Provo may see brief downpours, while higher terrain carries the greatest chance for lightning. Outdoor recreation in the canyons and deserts should be planned carefully, as dry lightning could trigger fire danger.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak heat, stay hydrated, and avoid hiking during the hottest part of the day. Warnings may be extended if storms trend stronger by the weekend.
