Salt Lake City, UT – The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a Freeze Watch for much of central and eastern Utah, warning that temperatures could drop as low as 26–30 degrees late Thursday night through Friday morning.
The advisory covers Castle Country, the Western Uinta Basin, and Western Millard and Juab Counties, including the cities of Price, Castle Dale, Emery, Duchesne, Roosevelt, Little Sahara, and Delta. A Freeze Warning that was in effect early Thursday morning expired at 9 a.m., but colder air returning overnight could bring another hard freeze.
Meteorologists caution that the coldest air of the fall season will settle over the region as skies clear and winds calm. The combination of dry air and radiational cooling is expected to produce sub-freezing temperatures for several hours before sunrise Friday.
Residents should protect crops, garden plants, and outdoor plumbing. The weather service recommends draining sprinkler systems, covering exposed pipes, and moving sensitive vegetation indoors to avoid damage.
By late Friday morning, sunshine should lift temperatures back into the upper 40s and 50s, though another chilly night is possible Friday into Saturday.
