Salt Lake City, Utah – Utah’s heat ramps up fast this week, with 97°F highs expected in Salt Lake City by Sunday afternoon and a blazing 99°F by Tuesday. The National Weather Service warns of extended exposure risks and urges residents to take precautions as the region enters a prolonged period of intense summer heat.
According to the NWS office in Salt Lake City, calm winds Sunday morning will give way to northwest breezes around 5 to 8 mph, offering little relief. Heat risk increases each day through midweek, with Monday’s high nearing 97°F and Tuesday’s peaking just below triple digits. While skies remain mostly clear, unshaded areas and urban streets, including I-15, will intensify the heat hazard.
Locals should stay hydrated, limit midday outdoor activities, and never leave pets or people in parked vehicles. If using public parks or trails, plan outings before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. to reduce heat exposure.
Evenings will bring some cooling, but temperatures remain elevated, with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s through Wednesday night. A slight chance of thunderstorms could develop by Wednesday night and linger into Thursday.

- Sunday (June 29): Sunny, high near 93°F
