Salt Lake City, UT – Monsoonal moisture is expected to persist throughout the weekend, heightening the risk of flash flooding across southern Utah. The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued an alert for areas including Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Zion, Glen Canyon, and Grand Staircase-Escalante, advising residents and visitors to be prepared.

According to the National Weather Service, flash floods are most likely in slot canyons, normally dry washes, and areas near recent burn scars. The alert remains in place through Sunday, as the region faces continued moisture influx.

As temperatures across the state remain high, with Salt Lake City forecasted to reach 95°F on Friday and Saturday, conditions are primed for sudden downpours leading to flash floods. Sunday’s temperatures are expected to slightly decrease to 93°F, with highs in the low 90s continuing into early next week.

Hikers and outdoor enthusiasts are urged to monitor weather updates closely and consider altering their plans to avoid flash flood-prone areas. The National Weather Service emphasizes the importance of not driving across flooded roads, advising, “Turn around, don’t drown.”

This monsoonal pattern is typical for Utah in late summer, and caution is advised for anyone planning outdoor activities in southern Utah this weekend.
