Salt Lake City, Utah – Extreme fire weather conditions are expected across northern and western Utah today, with a Red Flag Warning in place from noon to 9 p.m. Monday due to gusty southwest winds and dangerously low humidity.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, the warning covers Fire Weather Zones 478, 479, and 481—including the Salt Lake Desert, Wasatch Mountains, and Western Ashley National Forest. Winds are forecast to hit 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph south of I-80, where humidity may drop as low as 5 percent. Areas north of I-80 could see slightly more humidity but remain at risk.
With hot, dry air and temperatures reaching 98°F in Salt Lake City, fire danger is critical. Even small sparks could trigger fast-spreading wildfires. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and residents are urged to avoid using equipment that can generate sparks and to stay weather-aware throughout the day.
The threat of fire weather will ease slightly tonight as winds decrease and humidity rebounds. However, continued dry conditions through the week mean fire danger may return later this week.
