Salt Lake City, Utah – Strong winds and dangerously dry air are raising wildfire concerns across central and southern Utah, where a Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, fire weather zones 493, 495, and 496—which include the Central Utah Mountains, Color Country West Desert, and Color Country Mountains—are facing critical fire conditions due to southwest winds of 10–20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph. Relative humidity levels are expected to plummet as low as 8%, with poor overnight moisture recovery making firefighting conditions even more hazardous.
This alert covers areas stretching from Beaver and Piute counties through Iron and Washington counties, where any spark could lead to rapid fire spread. Dry grasses and ongoing drought conditions in the region compound the risk.
Residents and outdoor visitors are urged to avoid open flames, delay burning activities, and report any smoke immediately. Campfires, fireworks, and off-road driving should be avoided.
Conditions are expected to remain volatile through Monday evening, with similar warnings possible if dry weather continues.
