MOUNT PLEASANT, Utah – A minor earthquake rattled central Utah early Wednesday when a magnitude 2.5 quake struck just east of Mount Pleasant. The U.S. Geological Survey reported the tremor at 4:08 a.m. local time, centered about 7 kilometers ENE of the city at a shallow depth of 1.4 kilometers.

According to the University of Utah Seismograph Stations, the quake was recorded and reviewed quickly, though no felt reports have yet been filed. At this magnitude, the tremor is unlikely to cause damage but could have been noticed by residents close to the epicenter, particularly in Sanpete County.

Mount Pleasant, along with nearby towns like Fairview and Spring City, sits within a seismically active zone of central Utah, where small earthquakes occur regularly. While events under magnitude 3 are rarely damaging, officials encourage residents to treat them as reminders to review emergency plans and check supplies such as flashlights, batteries, and water.

The minor quake comes as Utah emergency managers continue stressing earthquake preparedness, noting the Wasatch Fault’s potential for larger, damaging events. No advisories or aftershock warnings have been issued, but seismologists will continue to monitor the area.
