Utah County, UT – A dangerous wrong-way driving incident on Interstate 15 ended with a crash and DUI investigation early today after Utah County deputies intervened to stop a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction.

According to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, two deputies responded to an agency assist call involving a wrong-way driver heading northbound in the southbound lanes of I-15, near mile marker 263. Deputies entered the freeway and located the vehicle near mile marker 269.

As deputies attempted to stop the driver, one patrol vehicle was struck on the driver’s side, causing it to spin and collide with another deputy’s vehicle. Officials said the action prevented the wrong-way driver from re-entering active traffic lanes, potentially avoiding further injuries or crashes.

Both deputies were evaluated and reported to be okay, and all occupants of the suspect vehicle were also uninjured, according to authorities. However, both law enforcement vehicles sustained damage as a result of the collision.

The Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) responded to the scene, completed the accident report, and took over the investigation. Officials confirmed the wrong-way driver is being investigated for DUI.

The incident caused temporary traffic disruptions along I-15 in Utah County, particularly near the Lehi–American Fork corridor, part of the greater Salt Lake metro area. Drivers were urged to remain alert for emergency responders and to report suspected impaired or wrong-way drivers immediately.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has additional information is encouraged to contact authorities.
