Vineyard, UT – A small single-engine plane made an emergency landing on the shoreline of Utah Lake Monday evening after experiencing engine trouble mid-flight, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

The aircraft had taken off from South Valley Airport in West Jordan and was flying over Utah County when the pilot began noticing mechanical issues. According to officials, the pilot attempted to troubleshoot the problem and initially aimed for Provo Airport before realizing they wouldn’t make it.

The pilot then executed an emergency landing along the Vineyard shoreline of Utah Lake. Fortunately, both the pilot and a passenger escaped the incident without injury. Authorities confirmed that no one on the ground was hurt.

Photos released by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office show the aircraft resting on the muddy shoreline with visible damage to its wings and fuselage.

“The plane did sustain some damage during the emergency landing,” officials stated in their post. “Thankfully, the pilot and passenger were not injured.”

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified and will conduct a formal investigation into the cause of the engine failure.
