Grand Junction, Colorado – Red Flag conditions and heavy wildfire smoke are creating hazardous conditions across western Colorado, especially in Mesa County and the Grand Junction area, where air quality and fire risk remain serious concerns through Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a Red Flag Warning is in effect until 8 p.m. MDT Saturday for areas below 8,000 feet in Fire Weather Zones 203 and 205, including the Lower Colorado River and Colorado River Headwaters. Winds out of the southwest could gust up to 30 mph, with relative humidity dropping as low as 7%. Any spark could spread quickly—residents are strongly advised to avoid all outdoor burning.

An Air Quality Advisory is also in place until 9 a.m. Saturday due to dense smoke from the Turner Gulch Fire in southern Mesa County. Visibility may drop below five miles in parts of Gateway and Grand Junction, with smoke concentrations deemed “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”

The fire weather threat continues into early next week. Officials urge residents to charge devices, limit outdoor activity, and prepare for rapidly changing conditions.

More advisories may be issued if storms and wind pick up again Sunday.
