Salt Lake City, UT – Rain and snow are set to sweep through the Salt Lake City area this weekend, prompting residents and travelers to prepare for potentially slick roads. With rain expected Saturday night and snow possible by early Sunday, motorists on I-15, I-80, and I-215 should stay alert for changing conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, rain will move into the region Saturday night, with a high chance of rainfall overnight. Temperatures will drop to around 36°F, and calm winds are expected to turn variable, potentially making visibility difficult. By Sunday morning, rain is likely to mix with snow between 9 a.m. and noon, particularly at higher elevations.

Sunday’s high will reach 44°F, with light northwest winds adding to the chill. While snowfall accumulation is expected to remain minimal in the city, mountain areas could see increased accumulation, impacting roadways and requiring caution for those traveling into elevated regions.

The mixed precipitation pattern continues into Sunday night, when temperatures dip to around 29°F. Rain may turn to snow late into the evening, with a 30% chance of precipitation expected. As temperatures cool, icy patches may develop on roads, especially bridges and overpasses.

Looking ahead, Monday is forecasted to be mostly cloudy with a high near 45°F. However, another round of rain and snow is likely on Tuesday, bringing a 60% chance of precipitation. Temperatures will peak at 45°F, but drop again to the mid-20s by Tuesday night, posing renewed risks for commuters.

Residents are advised to keep updated on the latest forecasts and exercise caution on highways and mountainous routes. Winter driving essentials, such as chains or snow tires, are recommended for those traveling outside of the valley.
