Salt Lake City, UT – Utah residents are preparing for another round of heavy mountain snow as a winter storm moves in tonight. The storm marks the final event in a series of holiday weather systems bringing significant snowfall to the region.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Salt Lake City, snow accumulations will range between 6 to 12 inches in the central and southern Wasatch Mountains. Localized totals of up to 9 inches are expected for the Bear River Range and areas near the Wasatch Plateau. Snowfall could create hazardous conditions on roads, including in canyons and high mountain passes.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution and stay updated on weather conditions. Officials recommend carrying emergency supplies, slowing down in snowy conditions, and avoiding travel if possible during peak snowfall. Commuters traveling along I-80 and I-84 should be especially vigilant.
The storm will also impact areas across northern Utah, bringing 2 to 4 inches of snow in valleys. Residents in communities such as Logan, Ogden, and Park City should prepare for potential travel disruptions.
Meteorologists warn that blowing snow may reduce visibility in higher elevations. The NWS advises checking updates at weather.gov/saltlakecity for real-time alerts and forecasts. The storm is expected to taper off early Monday morning, leaving improved but chilly conditions for the remainder of the week.
This snowfall contributes to Utah’s strong snowpack, benefiting ski resorts and water supplies as the state enters 2024.
