Western Mackinac, MI – The National Weather Service in Gaylord has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Western Mackinac County, in effect from 4 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday. Forecasters warn that heavy snowfall and strong winds will make travel dangerous through the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service, total snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches are expected, with localized totals possibly exceeding 11 inches. Winds could gust up to 35 mph, creating blowing and drifting snow that may lead to whiteout conditions later tonight and early Tuesday morning.

The storm is expected to heavily impact travel along the US-2 corridor, with visibility dropping quickly as snow bands move across the region. Commuters heading out Monday evening or Tuesday morning are urged to plan for extra travel time and monitor local conditions closely.

Officials warn that snowfall rates may vary sharply over short distances, meaning some areas could experience a rapid onset of hazardous travel conditions. Drivers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during peak snow periods and to keep emergency supplies in their vehicles.
