MALONE, N.Y. – A messy mix of snow, sleet, and light freezing rain is developing across northern New York this morning, ushering in slick travel conditions from the St. Lawrence Valley to the northern Adirondacks. The early-week system will make roads hazardous through Monday morning, with the greatest impacts expected this afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 7 a.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday for St. Lawrence, Franklin, Clinton, and Essex Counties in northern New York. Forecasters call for up to 3 inches of snow and sleet, combined with around one-tenth of an inch of ice, enough to create slick bridges and untreated roads during both commutes Monday.

Travelers on Route 11, Route 37, and I-87 south of Plattsburgh should anticipate slippery stretches, especially in shaded or elevated areas. The St. Lawrence Valley will see the heaviest snow before a transition to sleet and freezing drizzle tonight. Wind gusts may reduce visibility at times in exposed spots near Lake Placid and Tupper Lake.

Residents are urged to slow down, allow extra braking distance, and check 511NY.org for up-to-date road reports. The system will exit by early Monday, followed by cold, breezy weather across the North Country through midweek. Another weak disturbance may bring light snow late in the week.
