Pueblo, CO – High winds and dangerously low humidity are creating extreme fire danger across southern Colorado today, triggering a Red Flag Warning.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. MDT Saturday for Pueblo and neighboring counties, including Otero, Crowley, Huerfano, and Las Animas. Westerly winds between 20 and 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, will combine with humidity levels as low as 13 percent to fuel rapid fire growth. Officials strongly urge residents to avoid any outdoor burning or activities that could spark flames.

Critical fire conditions are especially concerning along the I-25 Corridor and southeast plains. The most intense fire risk is expected between noon and early evening. Winds will gradually ease overnight but may remain breezy into Sunday morning.

Looking ahead, the spring weather pattern stabilizes starting Sunday, with sunny skies and a high near 63°F. Monday will warm further, peaking at 76°F under mostly sunny conditions. Tuesday and Wednesday will stay clear and mild, with highs in the low-to-mid 70s and calm overnight lows near 40°F.

Residents should stay weather-aware this week, especially in elevated fire zones. Limit outdoor fire risks, secure loose objects, and follow local emergency alerts. Fire-prone zones should remain vigilant until winds and humidity levels normalize by Monday.

Stay tuned for updates and always check local fire restrictions before heading outdoors.
