Illinois – Headlights glint through a thin curtain of freezing fog and light snow across Chicago and the northern suburbs this morning, as winter tightens its grip on the region. Untreated surfaces are slick, and drivers on I-90, I-55, and local routes are urged to use caution as icy patches linger through the early commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, areas of freezing fog developed after last night’s snow, leaving a glaze on bridges, sidewalks, and secondary roads. Visibility is locally reduced, especially west of the city near DeKalb and Aurora.

As the fog lifts, skies will turn partly sunny with highs near 26°F, but refreezing will return quickly this evening as lows dip near 21°F. Meteorologists say another round of snow showers could move in by Wednesday afternoon, bringing a dusting to an inch of accumulation — just enough to coat already cold pavement.

By Thursday, skies clear but temperatures plunge again, with morning wind chills dipping below zero. Sunshine returns Friday, though highs stay in the mid-20s before a slow weekend warmup.

Residents should continue scraping windshields, salting driveways, and planning extra travel time. Early December is already proving that winter’s edge is here — slick, cold, and settling in fast.
