The University of Illinois Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying two individuals connected to a criminal damage incident on campus early Tuesday morning.
At approximately 4:04 a.m. on April 8, UIPD officers were dispatched to the Foellinger Auditorium after campus staff reported discovering paint on the building’s exterior. Upon arrival, an officer noted significant damage to the building, including the six columns and entrance doors. The extent of the damage requires extensive labor to remove.
According to UIPD, investigators reviewed security camera footage, which showed three individuals dressed in black clothing vandalizing the building. A second UIPD officer in the area identified one of the suspects and initiated a pursuit after the individual fled when emergency lights were activated. That person, identified as 20-year-old Adam T. Ahmed, a University of Illinois student from Champaign, was arrested on charges of criminal damage to government property and resisting or obstructing a peace officer. He was taken to the Champaign County Jail, where he remains as of Tuesday morning.
Police continue to review additional security footage and evidence collected from the scene as the investigation progresses. Authorities are seeking information on the other two individuals involved in the incident.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the University of Illinois Police Department at 217-333-1216 or submit anonymous tips through Champaign County Crime Stoppers at 217-373-8477 or online at 373tips.com.
