Authorities said the shooting occurred around 1:15 p.m. on September 9, 2025, in the 1500 block of East Washington Street. Urbana Police reported that several people were involved in an argument when one man allegedly left the area, returned in a vehicle, and fired into an occupied car. No injuries were reported.

According to the Urbana Police Department, investigators identified the suspect as 39-year-old Demetrius Vaughn, who allegedly fled the scene before officers arrived. Police said an arrest warrant was later issued for aggravated discharge of a firearm.

On October 7, 2025, the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force took Vaughn into custody without incident.
