Urbana, IL – A road rage incident in Urbana escalated into a shooting on Saturday, leaving one man hospitalized.

Police responded to reports of gunfire at Busey Avenue and Park Street at 4:30 p.m. Officers said the shooting stemmed from an earlier road altercation near Five Points. The incident involved a solo driver and a duo in another vehicle.

According to Urbana police, the solo driver parked at Carle Hospital before being followed to Busey and Park. The two vehicles stopped, and the confrontation intensified. The female passenger reportedly wielded a baseball bat. The male passenger allegedly concealed his hand under his shirt, leading the solo driver to believe he was armed.

The solo driver, a concealed carry permit holder, retrieved his handgun and fired multiple shots. The male passenger was struck and rushed to the hospital, where he remains in intensive care.
