Urbana police have identified the suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash on University Avenue and Coler Avenue that occurred early Friday. The individual, previously using falsified Mexican identification under the name Juan JaHaziel Saenz-Suarez, has been identified as Julio Cucul Bol, a 29-year-old Guatemalan citizen.
According to the Urbana Police Department, Cucul Bol’s true identity was confirmed through his admission and further investigation. Amended charges and a new arrest warrant have been filed in Champaign County. Champaign County State’s Attorney Julia Rietz has been informed of the updated charges, which include two counts of reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence resulting in death, and leaving the scene of a personal injury crash resulting in death.
The crash, which claimed two lives, occurred at 1:55 a.m. on January 19, 2025. Investigators say Cucul Bol fled the scene after the incident.
The Urbana Police Department extended its gratitude to the Mansfield, Texas, Police Department for assisting in the investigation. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims.
