Urbana, IL – Families across Champaign County are being urged to help fill a critical donation gap this week as the Urbana Police Department highlights an urgent need for gifts specifically for children ages 12 to 17. The call comes as part of the H.O.Y.C.E. Center’s Annual Gift Drive, which runs through Dec. 1.

According to the Urbana Police Department, the most in-demand items this season include new, unwrapped toys, pajamas and books for local teens—an age group often overlooked in holiday donation campaigns. Officials noted that all donated items will support youth from newborn through age 17, but teen gifts remain the most needed as the deadline approaches.

The drive features several drop-off locations across the region, giving residents in Urbana, Champaign, Rantoul and Thomasboro multiple ways to participate. Donation sites include the Urbana Police Department, Urbana Park District facilities, Champaign Police Department, Mix 94.5 / The Vibe 97.9 radio group, and Rantoul Business Center. A QR code posted by police also allows residents to donate directly or register for a Dec. 6 giveaway.

Organizers encourage community members to consider older youth when shopping, suggesting items such as personal care sets, blankets, board games, hoodies, sports gear and age-appropriate books.

Residents who have already donated say the drive plays an important role in supporting families during the holiday season—with many teens especially appreciative of gifts tailored to them.

Community members can drop off donations during regular business hours at any of the listed partner sites through Sunday, Dec. 1.
